How to Eat the Best BBQ in Rexburg Idaho
By Brenna Bennett
We know you’re hungry. We know you’re broke. We know you’re in Rexburg. And we KNOW you’ve got taste. So let us treat you to some advice: GET THE BARBECUE.
Considering that this is our first post, let us introduce ourselves. We are Rexburg Eats, the college-student consumers of Madison County. We’ve lived here for a few years and have seen restaurants come and go. More importantly, we’ve seen places come and go, and have seen the online reviews stay the same.
We’re here to freshen up the record and set it straight. We will organize different reviews by the kind of food they offer. And being the college students that we are, we will be reviewing restaurants with college concerns in mind:
1. Price Range
2. Food Quality/Taste
3. Restaurant Location
4. Restaurant Accommodation
5. Menu Diversity
First up, good ol’ barbecue. Below are the three barbecue restaurants in town: The Pitt, The Hickory, and Blisters. We tested each place’s pulled pork sandwiches. After spilling the tea, we’ll sum up our findings and give it to you straight. Let the battle of the barbecue begin!
The Pit
The Pit is a very hyped up restaurant in downtown Rexburg. You can usually find customers lining up before it opens as well as some turned away from their ‘sold out’ sign they put out every day. Customers can pre order, dine in, and even order catering from this local canteen.
1. Price: A single pulled pork sandwich and 2 sides costs $13, while just the sandwich is about $4.
2. Quality/Taste: We honestly expected more from all the hype! The bread was a generic sesame bun, and most of the flavor came from the sauce instead of the meat itself.
3. Location: After moving in three months ago, their downtown location is located 1.2 miles from the BYU-Idaho campus and is settled in the historic downtown area, giving the place a city feel.
4. Accommodation: The restaurant itself has a good-sized seating area where patrons stand in line to order and mosy into tables and chairs or take their food to go. The Pit is a popular barbecue restaurant, so the lines can get long as well as the wait for your food.
5. Diversity: The menu itself has sandwiches, tacos, and nachos with five main meats, seven taco meat flavors, and nine different sides.

The Hickory
The Hickory is a popular date night and family restaurant, being one of the few nicer sit-down restaurants in town.
1. Price: Our waitress charged us $10 for a pulled pork sandwich and a side, but other menu items range from $12 salads, $13 pasta, $13 burgers, $14 pizzas, and $24 dinners.
2. Quality/Taste: We were surprised by how delicious the bun on the sandwich was. As for the meat and sauce, you can tell that the meat is not cooked in the sauce because it is a bit dry. Overall the item is a good example of an average pulled pork sandwich.
3. Location: The Hickory is located 2.3 miles away from campus, close to Fat Cats movie theater.
4. Accommodation: This location offers a sit down atmosphere with waiters and waitresses. Because of its location, The Hickory can get busy for dinner and sometimes requires a waiting time.
5. Diversity: The Hickory offers a wide array of foods: salads, sandwiches, brick oven pizza, steaks, seafood, pasta, and burgers. Catering with this restaurant is also a possibility.

Blisters
Blisters takes the cake when it comes to barbecue. The restaurant is highly rated for its North Carolina BBQ style and even won the Rexburg business of the month in April 2017. The restaurant was created because of college students complaining about the lack of good restaurants in the area.
1. Price: A full pulled pork sandwich rings up to $8 with sides costing around $2-3.
2. Quality/Taste: Blisters BBQ is known for their amazing fry sauce and for their quality of food. Their pulled pork sandwiches are filled with sweet barbeque sauce and flavorful, tender meat. It will make you want to keep eating even when you’re completely stuffed.
3. Location: This location is 2.9 miles from campus and can be found inside in Mother Hibbard’s country store.
4. Accommodation: Patrons can sit in tables and chairs, but are in the middle of other customers coming and going from the gas station. The eating area includes lots of extra sauce and paper towels.
5. Diversity: Blisters’ menu includes seven kinds of meat served on sandwiches, meals, rice bowls, burgers, and specialty sides like fried green beans and pickles.
